My Daily Trail

This is my go to trail near where I live. I try to set foot on it daily, rain or shine. It makes the perfect trail for a beginner with close to no elevation. The slow winding curves through forest, swamp and open fields fall only short in said elevation, but not in its beauty and abundance of local wildlife and insects.

This is where running began for me, since I never ran before.  At first I walked about 2.5 miles every day. Just out and back, listening to an audio book...or at times without any devices and distractions. It did not take long at all for me to give a jog a try. It was just for me. No pressure, no failure. Just peace.

The positive changes that followed, the reduction of stress levels and overall well being were amazing. They were subtle…but they were there. I was beginning to feel well. With time, I started to read up and learn a bit more about running, techniques, training etc. I started to set little goals….just little ones, just for me.

Today I run an average of 4.5 miles five times a week. It’s a pleasant amount for me and temperatures allowing, I would like to attain further distance in the future.

This trail has a length of approx. 7 miles…so I have a bit of room to go and grow my distance.

*Update: As of June 2018, I am hitting 6.8 miles 4-5 times a week.

A lot of my reading happens here on this trail. Too many books to name them all, but here are just a few:

Salt to the Sea Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepety (her afterword at the end of her books had me in tears), The Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly, The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth, The Conqueror's Saga by Kiersten White, The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff, The Illuminae Files by Amy Kaufman, the Leo Demidov Series and many, many more.....

Here are a few pics from that trail…
